Shropshire Council Cabinet has agreed to continue discussions with government and regional partners about devolution as national arrangements continue to develop.
A report to Cabinet recommended the council maintain a flexible approach to keep options open while further work is carried out on what future devolution arrangements could mean for Shropshire.
Regional partnerships and economic links
The report recognises Shropshire's rural character and the importance of maintaining strong economic relationships both eastwards towards Telford and the West Midlands and westwards through existing partnerships in Wales, including the Marches Forward Partnership.
The Cabinet also supports further engagement with government and Telford & Wrekin Council while evidence is developed on the county's future economic, infrastructure and growth opportunities.
Council leader's statement
Shropshire Council leader Heather Kidd said: "This is about making sure Shropshire is part of the conversation and in the strongest possible position to secure investment, opportunities and a strong voice for our county. We will continue working positively with partners while putting Shropshire's interests first and keeping residents at the heart of future discussions."
Any future devolution proposals would be subject to further development and public consultation before decisions are taken.
